Currahee Club

A golf masterpiece in a stunning natural setting.

Just 90 minutes from Atlanta, in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, is a masterpiece community that peers out into the mountains and dips down into lakeside valleys. A community that is aptly described by its name, which was formed from a Cherokee word meaning ‘to stand alone.’ Currahee Club is well within reach of Metro Atlanta and Greenville, SC, yet feels like it is a world apart from the hustle and bustle of the city.

When complete, Currahee Club will feature just over 800 homes. Homesites for custom cottage or estate homes are priced from the mid-$100,000s for golf view to more than $500,000 for lakefront, and home prices start at $650,000. Homes are crafted in a style reminiscent of the traditional lakeside and mountain homes of the Carolinas, where natural elements allow the homes to complement their surroundings, rather than detract from them.

The golf course at Currahee Club is an extraordinary 18-hole, Jim Fazio-designed course completed in late 2003. The par-72 course envelops 7,513 yards of elevation changes and dramatic topography. Despite its awe-inspiring views, the course looks downright challenging. And to some degree it is. However, Currahee Club is a player’s course, as evidenced by its hosting the 2004 PGA Club Professional Championship. Closer examination reveals a well-crafted layout designed with the avid golfer in mind, one where challenging shots are balanced with generous fairways and few blind spots.

Other planned amenities include a world-class Golf Clubhouse, swim and tennis facilities, a full service marina and the welcoming Currahee Club Trading Company, scheduled to open this fall. Expected to be a favorite stop for the entire family, The Trading Company will be the spot children's treasures for its old-fashioned candy store and free ice cream cone, while parents will appreciate the convenience of the authorized Orvis outfitter and the opportunity to pick something up for dinner.

The community and its namesake course are the brainchild of father-son team Bob and Chris Whitley, who together have developed such notable golf communities as the Colleton River Plantation on Hilton Head Island; The Bear’s Club in Palm Beach County, FL; and the The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club and Spa in Jupiter, FL.
